Should You Use a Temp Agency? 4 Myths Debunked.

August 17, 2015
FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

Are you on the fence about partnering with a temp agency, or staffing firm as we like to say? Don’t be! Let us clear up four common misconceptions for you. You might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Myth #1: I can’t afford to outsource hiring.

Many people assume that working with a temp agency automatically means higher costs. But did you stop to think about the amount of time it takes to advertise a position and wade through piles of resumes and countless applications? What about the time and money that goes into screening, interviewing, testing, and background checks? Not to mention insurance enrollment, tax paperwork, payroll, and other employment necessities. The beauty of working with a staffing firm is that we handle all of that for you. We take those tasks off of your plate and absorb those costs.

Myth #2: The temp pool is a lower cut of employee.

Not so! The employee culture has been turned on its head in recent years. Today’s employee values flexibility and culture above traditional employment models. Whether it’s a millennial wanting a non-traditional job, an experienced employee ready for a second career, or a tried and true retiree in search of a challenge, today’s temps are more talented, eager, and reliable than you might think. And you also might be surprised at the diverse backgrounds of our candidates. We make placements in HR, admin, customer service, medical, accounting, the executive arena, and more.

Myth #3: You can’t hire permanent employees this way.

While people often think of using a staffing firm for short-term special projects or temporary assignments, don’t overlook going this route for permanent employees. Hiring a temp can be a great way to “try out” an employee and then make the long-term decision. We call this a temp-to-hire or temp-to-perm placement. But we also deal with direct hires and executive searches, too, with the goal of getting you a permanent employment from the start. Not sure which route to go? We’re happy to sit down with you and determine the best course of action.

Myth #4: Temp agencies are about getting a “butt in the seat.”

This couldn’t be further from the truth at TGHR. We think of ourselves as matchmakers, working hard to meet the needs of both parties and find that perfect fit. That’s why we go beyond just surface-level relationships with our clients and candidates. We get to know people face-to-face, learning who they are and what matters to them. And we’re willing to do the right thing—every time—even when it’s not the easy thing. We handpick candidates and clients, and are willing to say no to a potential match if it’s not best for both parties.

Don’t let these myths hold you back from pursuing a temp or temp-to-hire placement. Let us guide you through your options and the process of working with us. We’ll give you an honest assessment of your situation and go from there.

What I Am Thankful For

November 26, 2014
FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

What am I thankful for?  That’s something almost everyone is asking this week as we near Thanksgiving.  For most of us it’s a question we can answer in simple terms.  Our family, our health, our career, the soldiers and veterans whom have fought and continue to fight for our freedom.  There are so many things to be thankful for the list could go on for days.

I decided to focus on what I’m thankful for here at That’s Good HR.

1.  I am thankful for the candidates that come to us as a reputable Indianapolis based staffing firm and allow me to assist them in their job search.  Without them, I couldn’t service the many excellent organizations here in Indianapolis that I get to each year.  Along with that, I am thankful for the relationships I have built over the years with our candidates.  Hearing stories of their career achievements or anniversaries, family weddings, births, special milestones (30th wedding anniversary) truly makes my day brighter.  I love getting the opportunity to get to know my candidates on a deeper level as they trust me to find the right job match for them.  For me, it’s about building a relationship that will last for years to come!

2.  I’m thankful for the companies that trust us to help them find their “ideal candidate”.  When our clients strategically partner with us to help them grow their organization, amazing things happen.  I feel honored to be a part of that.  It’s very rewarding to know that your clients will call you the next time they have an opening because they are excited about the employee they hired from you!

3.  I’m thankful for an amazing team here at That’s Good HR that covers me when I am out or lends a helping hand when I need it.  I can trust that my team has me covered and my candidates will get the same level of customer service from my team even if I’m on vacation.

4.  I’m thankful for candidates that share their honest experience with me.  I love growing and learning from different situations and I feel honored that they feel comfortable enough to tell me what they liked and what I could have done better.

These are the things that make the work I do exciting and rewarding.  Although, I don’t get the opportunity to express my gratitude to each of you often enough, I appreciate that you allow me to be part of a crucial time of your life (the job search).  You are the reason for the very existence of our company and I’m thankful for you!

Month of Thanks

November 24, 2014
FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

That’s Good HR has labeled the month of November as “The Month of Thanks” and we would like to say “Thank You” to all of our clients; past and present. I didn’t have to look far to find my top ten reasons to be thankful!

1. Let me start by saying just how thankful I am for my clients who have asked for help filling their Indianapolis-based Accounting, Administrative and Healthcare openings in 2014! (As well as years prior!)

2. I am thankful for clients who partner with us in the belief that we don’t want to put a warm body in a seat, but instead we want to take our time to make the right placement from the very beginning! It’s a mentality that’s always made That’s Good HR different and we love having clients with the same desire for excellence.

3. I am thankful for clients who value the Indianapolis Temporary Staffing we provide for them and value my opinion as an expert in this field. We love joining forces with our clients in true partnership.

4. I am thankful for clients who give me their business exclusively. How do I ever thank you enough? I appreciate that you trust me enough to take care of your opening.

5. I am thankful for all of the friendships I have formed from being in staffing for 14 years, with seven of those years spent right here at That’s Good HR. Without these fulfilling years spent in my career, I would not have had the opportunities to meet such wonderful people!

6. I am thankful to all of the hiring managers who have referred me to their friends and family. I treasure your trust and appreciate your faith in me so very much.

7. I am thankful for clients who give me quick and thorough feedback in regards to the resumes that I have presented to them, as well as the interviews that have taken place with our candidates. That quick feedback allows me to provide valuable feedback to our candidates and helps my team to better target your specific needs.

8. I am thankful for opportunities to grow and develop professionally. Clients who provide honest and candid feedback throughout the process, whether positive feedback or constructive criticism, allow me to better cater my approach to the business needs of each client.

9. I am thankful for clients who communicate their thoughts about the candidate throughout the assignment so that I can address issues if needed, as well as give praise when warranted. I am always thankful for the opportunity to share an encouraging word that might make a candidate’s day brighter!

10. I am thankful for clients who realize that it’s a candidate’s market and move quickly through the process when they have an opening. You are doing this because you read my previous blog, correct?

Thanks for making 2014 a great year!! I look forward to our continued partnership in 2015 and years to come. I hope you have a wonderful holiday with family and friends.

FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

Are you looking for a qualified, temporary staffing agency in Indianapolis to fill positions at your firm?  That’s Good HR is a leading temp agency in Indianapolis. Among all of the employment services we offer, we staff more temporary jobs and temp-to-hire jobs than other job categories. With the rise in temporary service demands in Indianapolis area, as well as throughout the country, we are helping our Indy clients meet staffing demands while minimizing long-term overhead expenses.

As Indianapolis temporary staffing specialists, we recruit job candidates for several popular temporary job categories. In fact, That’s Good HR is a temporary staffing specialist in several job categories, including:

  • Administrative jobs: Indianapolis companies often seek highly skilled professionals for office and administrative roles. Many of these positions are hired on a temporary or contract basis to meet demand, but often times become temp-to-hire administrative positions.
  • Financial and accounting jobs: In Indianapolis, financial and accounting jobs remain two of the most in-demand categories in the local temporary staffing job market. Like administrative temp jobs, financial and accounting positions often start as temporary staffing positions for seasonal projects, and many employers prefer to hire job candidates on a trial basis. For this reason, we have several recruiters at  That’s Good HR who focus exclusively on recruiting and placing temporary job candidates in financial and accounting positions.
  • Human resources (HR) jobs: As an expert staffing agency in Indianapolis, we also know what it takes to find the right person for an internal human resources role. We help many of our Indy clients recruit for HR candidates, which is also among one of the growing fields in the Indianapolis job market.
  • Executive (C-Level) jobs:  Many firms consider hiring executives on a contract or temporary basis during leadership transitions, when a current executive is absent for an extended period of time, or simply just to ensure a good fit before hiring permanently. With a recruiting team in place to help you with your executive search, as well as our customized, hrology services such as contract, compensation and benefit negotiation as well as transition services, That’s Good HR can serve the role as your executive headhunter with ease.

So now you know that we are more than just an employment agency in Indianapolis. Whether you’re seeking a temp agency and temp services or simply want to work with experienced Indianapolis headhunters, That’s Good HR can help you find the perfect fit.

That’s Good HR makes Inavero’s 2012 Best of Staffing™ Client List

March 27, 2012
FacebookTwitterLinkedIn

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

That's Good HR (TGHR) announced today that it has been named to Inavero's 2012 Best of Staffing™ Client list. Best of Staffing, presented in partnership with CareerBuilder, is the nation's only award that recognizes staffing firms that receive remarkable reviews from their clients. Fewer than 1% of North American staffing firms have been named to the 2012 Best of Staffing Client List.

Recent research by Inavero found that Best in Staffing Client winners were more than 3 times as likely to identify 'culture match' as the most important attribute to ensuring a successful placement. Those who didn't make the list were more likely to identify matching technical skills as the most important attribute. Great firms understand what clients have long believed – culture fit is as important, if not more important than merely matching a set of skills to an applicant – and those firms who do it well are rewarded with loyal clients.

TGHR's founding partner, Harry Danz said, "I am very proud of Mary Springer and her team to once again be recognized for their outstanding customer service and responsiveness," he said. "It makes all of us at TGHR proud to know we are considered amongst our peers as one of the top 1% of staffing firms across the country and this result was 100% based on client feedback. We also want to thank our loyal customers and look forward to many more years ahead. Once again Inavero has proven what Mary and I have always believed to be the secret to our success, understand the client culture and understand their true need and the rest as they say takes care of itself."

Staffing firms competing to make the Best of Staffing list underwent a rigorous client survey process followed by careful analysis of responses to determine satisfaction levels. That's Good HR received satisfaction ratings of 9 or 10 out of 10 from 82.3 percent of their clients, significantly higher than the industry's average of 50 percent. Best of Staffing participants secured a place on the list by earning an average Net Promoter Score that was nearly double the national staffing industry benchmark for client satisfaction and TGHR earned a Net Promoter Score that was two and a half times the industry benchmark.

"The staffing industry continues to play a key role in helping to revitalize the economy," said Eric Gregg, Inavero's Founder and CEO.  "Staffing firms give growth-minded organizations a more flexible alternative to recruiting their own employees, letting both the employee and employer determine if the fit is right for a more permanent position.  Both sides receive tremendous value in a flexible, yet meaningful working relationship, and as they engage with staffing firms to help achieve those goals, the service experience they have is very important to their success. The Best of Staffing lists are a resource for businesses and talent who are trying to find staffing firms that provide exceptional service."

Inavero's complete Best of Staffing list can be viewed at http://www.bestofstaffing.com. For more information about Inavero, visit www.inavero.com. To learn more about That's Good HR visit www.thatsgoodhr.com and http://www.bestofstaffing.com/2012/client/thats-good-hr-inc/

Many thanks to our loyal customers for their active participation in this survey. We look forward to continuing to provide you with a superior level of service in the future.

Hot ChocolateHiring, branding, workplace culture, health insurance and "a partridge in a pear tree". So many balls in the air, it can be a challenge just to choose which to catch first and which to just let fall for the time being. Can you catch them all? Not alone. This is the time of year when many companies review their human capital strategies and determine what changes to make for the coming year. It is important to make sure that all of the non-tangible aspects of your business are considered (like managing your brand or keeping up with social media) along with the obvious. This week there were some good news articles focusing on some of these key issues. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and read on….

Health Insurance plan Choices Confusing for Many: As another open enrollment season comes to a close, millions of consumers are finalizing their benefits packages for 2012. Unfortunately, more than half of insured adults are confused with several important aspects related to choosing a health insurance plan, reveals a survey released Monday. (benefitnews.com)

The Importance of Paying Close Attention to Social Media: Imagine your company announces a major change to its service offering and suddenly, the company is being bombarded by negative social media comments about the change. Further, the leadership of the company ignores the negative comments thinking everything will simply blow over. In today’s world, things don’t blow over. Problems tend to spread virally in short order. (forbes.com)

Hiring Top Talent with Limited Resources: When clients that operate small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) ask for help recruiting, hiring and retaining top talent, they often start the conversation by highlighting a huge human resources challenge: How can they compete with larger, deeper-pocketed competitors to recruit their industry’s best performers? (financialpost.com)

What Motivates Employees more then Money? The ability to motivate employees is one of the greatest skills an entrepreneur can possess. Two years ago, I realized I didn’t have this skill. So I hired a CEO who did. (linkedin.com)

Let’s Agree to Drop these Worst Corporate Jargon Offenders: Hey!  It’s mission-critical that we circle back on this very important matter of corporate jargon in the workplace. Let’s focus on the low-hanging fruit with a small group first and then loop everyone in. Being proactive about our learnings will really incentivize the group to focus on the most critical action items and value-add for maximum impact. Let’s start high level, drill down from there, and circle back after lunch to figure out next steps. (thehiringsite.com)

Talent and skills shortage-one of the top business risks for 2012: Despite high levels of unemployment, U.S. business leaders say one of the biggest risks they’re facing is a talent and skills shortage, according to the 2011 Lloyd’s Risk Index. (benefitnews.com)

How to Manage workplace culture:
The Christmas season is here. Many non-Christians participate in the commercial aspects of Christmas. Some non-Christians are offended by its religious foundations and any reference to Christmas in the workplace, at school or in the stores. Many employees have no strong opinion. (newsobserver.com)

Employer Branding – Spread the Word: “I heard that’s a great place to work.” When employer branding efforts are successful, any mention of a company should trigger that exact statement. And when a company effectively communicates its brand internally and obtains employee buy-in, “Yes, it is!” should become the automatic response. (recruiter.com)

11 Favorite recruiting strategies for hiring new college grads: A new report from Michigan State University gives college students a road map on how to connect with employers. snowWith the first snowfall of the year we are reminded of the importance of being prepared as the weather takes a turn for the worse. I thought I was prepared, as I pro-actively purchased yet another snow scraper for my car well over a month ago. This is a fancy one with a retractable handle and double brush. This would be the shining star of my snow scraper collect
ion. Yesterday, upon emerging from my warm office at the end of the day to brave the snowy drive home; it occurred to me that while was proactive in the purchase of the snow scraper, my failure to leave it in my car rendered it useless to me in my time of need. Lesson learned.

My hope for you is that  my weekly news updates contribute to your ability to be prepared for HR and legal issues and challenges as they develop. Preparing for a storm is one thing, but staying on top of the daily maintenance of small issues before they become big ones is just as important (if not more important). Here are some of the top HR and legal news updates I came across this week.
______________________________________________________________________________

20 States to See Tax Hike on Employers: Federal unemployment taxes will rise for employers in 20 states and the Virgin Islands. Those employers are losing part of a credit on federal unemployment taxes in 2011 because their state governments have unpaid balances for two or more years on federal funds borrowed to pay state unemployment claims. (Staffing Industry.com)

Checking Social Media on a Potential New Hire? Here are some Tips: According to this recent SHRM survey, only 18 percent of companies have used social media to screen job candidates. Most cite the legal risks of screening candidates as the reason for not implementing a social-media background check. (tlnt.com)

Bill to extend payroll tax cust to be introduced by Democrats: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Monday that he plans to introduce legislation this week that would extend the payroll tax cut that is due to expire at the end of the year. (benefitnews.com)

Why more folds are waiting to Retire: A recent Wells Fargo survey of 1,500 Americans between the ages of 20 and 70 reveals that 20% of them believe that they will “need to work until at least age 80” to live comfortably into retirement. (recruiter.com)

Good Tips here on How NOT to fire someone: 5 common mistakes: Unless you’re a natural bully, firing someone is never fun. It is, of course, a necessary part of being a manager, and it’s a skill that can be honed. (cbsnews.com)

Employer Reactions to Internet Use at Work: Though it’s expected that workers will use the Internet for non-work purposes during breaks, lunch hours, and in moderation, Web activity spilling into work time is when many employers put their collective feet (adorned with 50 percent off Black Friday Blowout shoes, thankyouverymuch) down. (thehiringsite.careerbuilder.com)

Do you Measure Performance? Some: Management gurus like Peter Drucker have long since put to bed the idea that measuring performance really does improve performance significantly more than if you don’t measure. But this isn’t the reason driving most people’s participation in performance measurement. Let’s look at a few of the most common reasons, and see how compelling they are. (staceybarr.com)

Office Distractions – 6 of the Biggest: When productivity is high, your business provides better service and you are most likely making more money.
